WELCOME TO MY BLOG
WARMEST OF WELCOMES
My very first blog post! Thank you so much for being here and also for taking the time to read this. I hope over time I might inspire you all in some little way…
Im sitting on our sofa with a cup of tea, wrapped in a cosy blanket on a rather beautifully, misty and slow Sunday morning in Northern Ireland. Autumn has arrived in earnest which makes me extremely happy, as its my favourite season by far. There is a sense of change in the air, a change I am most eager to embrace. Long boots, warm blankets, crackling fires, cosy nights in, the smell of apples baking, leaves turning and a sharp nip to the air. I have just finished a late breakfast of homemade pancakes with my husband and our two daughters (their very favourite breakfast) and we don’t plan on going too far from home today…
I wanted to begin my blog with a simple, short little introduction to me, my family, my life and what I want to bring to this place….
So… grab yourself a cuppa, and let me fill you in….
I am Jill… a mum, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an Industrial Designer and a friend… Married to Rodger since 2006, we have 2 wonderful daughters, Naomi 10 and Ella 7. We also have a growing menagerie of animals at home… a dog called Molly, a cat called Kitty, a pony called Nora and few hens! Life at the Bennett’s is like many other family homes! Crazy, hectic, loving and happy… all that wrapped up in a ‘go with the flow’ kinda attitude. Our house is a home first and foremost, so please don’t expect perfectly preened insta worthy photos all of the time!
MY OWN JOURNEY
Growing up on an orchard in Co.Armagh, I guess I didn’t stand a chance not falling in love with nature, wildlife and country life. Back in the day my childhood was really simple… full of freedom and somewhat wild! The fields, trees and back lanes were our playground and it was a magical and carefree time. My love of nature and the outdoors is still as strong today. I spend many hours with my own family exploring, foraging the hedgerows and simply enjoying our beautiful part of the country!
Luckily for me, I don’t see my work as work! It is simply my absolute passion! Growing up, my Father owned his own Kitchen business here in Portadown. There I spent many days watching him work, whiling away the hours sweeping up sawdust from the floor. Sometimes, after school, I would do my homework in the design room alongside the kitchen designer, Anna. I would imagine I was her, designing, sketching and quietly absorbing everything going on around me.
Weekends we spent at National trust properties and auction rooms, indulging my Fathers passion for period furniture and Interiors. I remember being engrossed as we took house tour after house tour, listening to the history of each property and the lives of those who once lived there.
Not surprisingly, I went on to study Industrial design (Furniture/ Interior/Product) at the University of Ulster in Belfast. I graduated with 1st class honours in 2006.
Through this blog I would love to share with you all of my passions… Interior Design, furniture design, product design, colour psychology, my own work, inspiration and my passion for colour! Sometimes however, I might also share family moments, ideas on cooking for the seasons, local produce and maybe some gastronomic delights from our wood fired oven!
So thats me! Welcome to my blog…
